Pinot Noir 2015
The wine has an elegant palate with notes of crushed fresh raspberies, crisp sun-ripened red cherry and new leather. The nose takes you on a walk down the Kettle Valley Railway after light sun showers. The flavours have immaculate concentration juxtaposed by the perfect amount of acidity.
Also known as 'the heartbreak grape' Pinot Noir has been a nice challenge to work with. BC's cooler climate is showcasing Pinot Noir that is world class.
INSIDER TIP: Small Cap release with just 300 cases produced.
After hand picking, we double hand sort the grapes followed by mostly whole berry fermentation. However, 15% of the Pinot Noir is whole cluster fermented in the 'Ferminator', our 2600 litre, custom built French oak wood fermentation tank.
The wine is then barrel aged for 14 months in French oak barrels.
Starting with a spectacularly warm spring, 2015 became one of the hottest on record in the Okanagan Valley. Hot doesn't necessarily guarantee a stellar vintage as vines can shut down once temperatures go beyond 35 degrees. Typical of recent hot summers, forest fires abounded creating other issues such as valley smoke, which clouded the sunshine for a few weeks and slowed ripening. Overall, harvest dates were two to three weeks early with fabulously ripe fruit.
