Release of Portfolio 2013

Laughing Stock Vineyards is releasing the 2013 vintage of Portfolio, our flagship Bordeaux inspired blend.

Just like a finely balanced stock portfolio, putting together a blended wine takes finesse and judgment so that the experience of the whole will be greater than the sum of the individual parts. Our Portfolio is a wine that marries the art and science of winemaking, with a blend of five of the Bordeaux varietals. For the past decade, Portfolio has routinely won top accolades from wine competitions and wine critics alike. A proven chart-topper.

In 2013, we were again blessed with a stellar growing season. This vintage combines the five classic varietals: 41% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, 8% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot.

Upon tasting, the aromas include complex layering of blackberry compote and clove spice that jump out from the glass. Solid notes of black fruit and dark chocolate on the palate, with tannins that are already soft and plush, thanks to the warm year. The end result is a smooth, long finish and a wine built to age.

Crush 2015 Update

Our winery team is currently running at full tilt with over 80% of grapes in the winery, unheard of timing for the end of September.   With the exceptionally warm growing season, grape ripeness is weeks ahead of 'normal'. Just the big cabs left on the vine and coming in this week. Quality in a warm vintage like this looks incredible with ripe flavours and intense concentration.

Much detail goes into each lot of wine including using our 2,600 L oak wood fermenter, "The Ferminator", for a co-ferment of Syrah and Viognier from our Perfect Hedge Vineyard in Osoyoos. Pictured here, David is flowing off the Free Run juice, post ferment, of an 80% whole berry and 20% whole cluster combination. After pressing, the wine will be barrelled up into French oak barrels by two coopers, Sylvain & Hermitage, where it will stay for 14 months of aging.

Curry anyone?
Wine Dinners at Vij's

One of the amazing experiences we've had being in the wine industry has been to enjoy our wines paired with food from some of the best chefs in the country.

Vikram Vij's Indian restaurant was one of our early supporters and continues to be a huge supporter of BC wine. We visited his restaurant long before we got into the wine biz and have immensely enjoyed his passion and vision on food and wine (he's an accredited sommellier besides being one of the 'Dragons' from Dragons Den).  We've since got to know Mike Bernardo, the wine guy at Vij's (and Sommelier of the Year 2014 - Vancouver Interational Wine Festival).

Come join David, Cynthia & Mike at one of these upcoming dinners at Vij's family of restaurants that explore the enjoyment of pairing our wines with curries and other inspired Indian cuisine.
