Pinot Noir has been a nice challenge with fruit sourced from a stellar high bluff site on the Naramata Bench. While Pinot Noir has a reputation that it can be tricky to grow, BC's cooler climates are showcasing Pinot Noir that is world class.

Imagine chewing cherry fruit leather while walking through a forest after a rain. That is the experience of tasting the 2014 Pinot Noir. The ripe red fruit from a warm vintage is nicely balanced with an earthiness that gives a lovely structure to the wine. 

winemaking notes

Grapes were sourced from a single vineyard site on the Naramata Bench on heavier silty soils typical of the Bench landscape. After hand picking, we did quality grape selection with our double sorting tables then destemmed and fermented as whole berries. After pressing, the wine was then aged for 16 months in French Oak barrels designed by a select Burgundian cooper.

Simply put, the 2014 growing year was HOT. For grape growing, that translates to a quality vintage year. Even with the typical June rains, the season was above average for temperatures and the early spring really created a long growing season. While we anticipated an early harvest, we did get a nice pause with warm days and cool nights typical of the Okanagan Valley. This allowed flavours to develop and catch up with the sugar development and still retain fresh acidity for balanced whites. Definitely a stunning vintage.
