Pareto's Blend 2016
Super fun project wine of only 76 cases with Mike Bernardo, Sommelier at Vij's, THE Indian restaurant in Vancouver. This blend of 80% Viognier and 20% 'White' Syrah is a gorgeous rosé wine that not surprisingly, pairs excellent with curry.
Inspired by Rhone wines, Mike Bernardo and winemaker David Enns, endeavoured to make a 'reverse Cote Rotie'. Meaning making a full bodied white wine using Viognier sourced from our Perfect Hedge Vineyard in Osoyoos as the base, and adding Syrah which is soaked over night on the skins then quickly pressed off ... thus the 'white Syrah'. Of course, a bit of colour transfer adds a gorgeous salmon hue to the wine. After ferment, the wine is aged in 50% stainless steel tanks and 50% oak barrels.
The proportion of 80% Viognier and 20% Syrah echoe's the Pareto's Principle that 80% of effects is based on only 20% of effort. Balance plus intrigue.

True to the Viognier character, aromas of bright fresh peaches lifts from the glass. On the palate this full bodied expressive wine shows rich stone fruits, with a complex mid palate of Okanagan meets the Rhone. It has an abundance of fruit but comes off dry and can be enjoyed with anything from spicy curries to a nice barbecued steak or Mike's favourite just sitting back on the deck enjoying the sunshine and a glass of Pareto's Blend.
